Estevan at a Glance
Located only a short drive from the Canada/USA border is Saskatchewan's
most southern city, Estevan. The city currently has a population of around 11,000
residents and continues to grow, with its major industries of coal, oil, gas,
power and agriculture. The first settlers to the area arrived in 1892, with the
expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway. To learn more about the history of
the area visit the Souris
Valley Museum, which houses a variety of historical artifacts. Visitors can
find out how Estevan earned its nickname of the “Energy City” by seeing the Shand
Power Station and Shand
Greenhouse. Families will appreciate the water slide and six lane swimming
pool at the Souris
Leisure Centre for a fun afternoon outing together. Popular summer local spots
include the Boundary
Dam and Rafferty
Dam for boating, water activities and fishing. A good way to spend some downtime
in Estevan is a stroll through the scenic Woodlawn
Regional Park or sitting down for a relaxing meal in one of Estevan's many
local restaurants.
